Playbook play? Perhaps

posted in computing |

Part of my work list includes documenting my local climate. No deep details, but when I look back, years from now, I want to go beyond supposition. Today, we reached above 10C; double digits in December, and not that bothersome scale that falls below freezing. I didn’t lay out in the sun (I could have), but I can still wear shorts and not fear frostbite.

Here’s a picture, just to prove that our snow on the ground comes down to a trace along the treeline.

I now have two separate but similar coax sections. That mag loop antenna is high on my work list, as well. Next, I’ll have to mount some connectors on the side of a grey plastic box I received, and decide just which variable capacitor will be dedicated to my tests. I’m relying on the wisdom of the Internet. Being unsure of what to do next goes hand in hand with self-education.

Last evening, I came across one of my “Blackberry Playbook” tablets, relegated to storage after getting my first iPad. With an evening attached to a charger, the tablet snapped back out of hibernation, and I’m waiting on a software update. Why? Why not. The money was spent, years ago. Now to see if I can re-purpose the tablet. Perhaps as a monitor for a Pi project, if I can find a suitable viewer. Or, I can try putting some “tunes” into the memory. Always happy to have another music player. The construction quality of these tablets was high, and if Blackberry hadn’t dropped the ball on some of their other products, it could have had a future.
