Dedicated care
Today, there was a breakfast, followed by shopping and ticket selling and topped off with a big parade. I missed all of it. Never let any dog in my house tell you that I’m not a devoted caregiver.
To be fair, the idea of standing in a brisk wind, testing the windchill factor while waiting for seasonal floats to roll on by was not on my preferred list of “ways to spend an afternoon”. I salute the valorous among you who take such things to heart; send me pictures and we’ll call it even.
Here, at home, I took time to observe the avoidance techniques of the dog, while I walked around with the Dyson in tow. He was methodical, and we only had one face-to-face when we tried to go through the same doorway at the same time. I yielded, and he returned to his position on top of the bed, where household surveillance is handled in relative comfort.
I might have to travel, in a couple of weeks. Should I feign excitement? Have to weigh the consequences, and try to develop a plan that will allow me to profit from some big-city time. Now that Amazon and I are buddies, the need to roam around a crowded shopping mall has melted away (unlike the snow outside). Plus, we would be relegated to floor space in the homes of our children. They don’t have the advantage of a (nearly) finished basement to welcome travelers. I have hinted at moving the holiday here, but so far my hint has led to little enthusiasm on their part.
