Basically polarized

posted in education, politics |

Looking back, school was surprisingly homogenous. On a day-to-day basis, ideological conflict was absent. We all went to the same classrooms, and herd mentality coupled with a singular curriculum meant that a differing opinion on anything was beyond rare.

This carried over into the workplace, where we followed a schedule set to enhance productivity. The only moments of misaligned opinion came when discussing the wisdom of supervisors; even there, the rest of us were aligned. Could it be that school was a kindergarten for society?

I’d say yes, until I discovered the mud pit of political thought. Even now, with almost all of life behind me, I can easily be polarized. And, it would appear, so can the others. My current bad habit of following the noise from political channels keeps my blood pressure elevated, as I try to grasp the level of stupidity out there. Can’t they see that certain things are just wrong? And this goes beyond that “right vs wrong” balance. Some of the world is tasked with trying to try and kick the supports out from under the rest of us.

I don’t want to point fingers, but rest assured that my wardrobe does not contain a single red hat.

Meanwhile, in a world where “law and order” is presented as the foundation of everything else, certain people are given a “get out of jail ticket” without needing to even go behind the barred door for a day. How does that work? I mean, I pride myself on an unblemished judicial folder. But, mine has been earned. Not bought.
