Hard day for trees
Started our day on a normal note, with breakfast in town. Lots of bacon. Oh, and friends. Anyhow, my first social meal since back early in the season; the dog kept me out of circulation through the warmer days. Those appear to be over.
We made sure we had milk and bread before getting home for final preparations. The winds are scheduled to rise, shortly. I wanted the bins tucked out of reach, and also wanted to stow the red gas can beforehand. And, right on time, the winds started to increase. Out to sea, good wave action. Closer to the house, well, not much to see.
Until midafternoon. Sometime along the way, our neighbours received a tree, on their roof. Down the lane, blowdowns, keeping the lakeside crowd inside. And my attention turned to posting hourly weather observations. Part of my training, if you will.
Right now, the power is out, province wide. The generator assures our comfort. On TV, a binge of Derry Girls. According to the weather sites, the eye of the storm is over Nova Scotia, which means that we should receive our lull in the early hours.
Damage reports are mainly from the “big city”, where a construction crane collapsed (fast, very fast). In Montague, the roof has lifted from one of the furniture dealers. I’m perhaps premature in my prediction, but this should pass without major incident (for us).
Still waiting to see if we become the warming station for others. Our summer has proved that we can provide sleeping space, although the maximum dog count still needs to be tested. And again, this may pass quickly.
