Seeking a better path to riches
For those who pay attention to such things… yesterday, a large group of potential candidates from one of the major political parties left the fold. They actually declared their new loyalties to lie with a different party. Today, half of them are back with the original party, after receiving some convincing that their choice was ill-founded. Sounds like something a bike club might do.
Elsewhere, the rhetoric is heating up, as we await the official declaration of our next federal elections. Forget taking the high moral ground; this is all about getting/keeping some of the best employment opportunities in the nation. No, you aren’t assured of becoming one of Canada’s millionaires (there are only 1.5 million of those), but the chances are much better than if you hold down several of the many (many) minimum wage positions out there. After all, the number of work hours in any given week are limited, whereas political grift/graft is an open ended path to riches. I’d love to think that elected officials are there because they believe in the greater common wealth. It just isn’t so. Imagine a world where you could donate your time AND feed your family.
Yesterday, I dreamed that I could turn this whole Brexit thing into a personal financial windfall. Today, the pound rose by another two pennies (not pence) against our dollar. Since I only wanted to spend a fixed amount, my intended wager is down by a toonie. I’m far from independent wealth, at this rate. Might have to come up with a different strategy. Selling lemonade to thirsty tourists, perhaps.
