Fade to blackish
I received the emergency call late in the evening. From the next room: “the television isn’t working”. We don’t have much else in the way of standard entertainment, so I took this as a serious thing. Checked the usual details, and went so far as to learn the sequence for a factory reset. Nothing. Our world had gone to black.
Did the next best thing, suggesting that we leave the receiver unplugged for a bit (could be heat, right?) And using my best research skills, I learned that a similar (not identical) model could be purchased in the city, as our extended warranty ran out about a hundred days back. While she was off to shop, I began the ritual of removing the body for burial from its place on the wall. Or tried to. Not enough hands to pull the release cords and support the dead weight. Anyhow.
The replacement set (nothing is free in my world) is similar, in measure. Different in software features. And the screws for the wall mount weren’t long enough, so an emergency ride to the local hardware store was added to the to-do list. And here we are. The swap is done, and the rather lengthy download of firmware (our net feed is s-l-o-w) ended before patience ran out. All the wires have been reconnected, and we have TV again. Just a blip on the household timeline.
I’ll figure out , tomorrow, how we get an oversized mass into the recycling stream. Not curbside, I’m sure. Probably come down to a ride to the “not a dump” compound, and payment of some ludicrous user fee.
