Exploring the Cape
Keeping with our trend of avoiding “a plan”, we le the road dictate today’s route. We could have visited the Navy’s submarine exhibits, but instead we went to one of those trendy market villages; the better to shop for Xmas decorations and kitchen gadgets.
So, here we were in Mystic. I somehow missed the fudge shop, and the market for knick-knacks imported from Ireland. In place, a good grilled cheese sandwich (5 cheeses) served as brunch, and I did not buy an expensive cast iron pan or a rhree-sided shsrpening stone. Whew! Could have caused us to slide into a deep debt pit, there.
For out third state of the day, we stayed south of Boston, and explored Cape Cod. Call it cursory, because the main route is separated four lane highway through deep woodland. Only when we took a detour east to the shore did we find reputed beaches. Getting there late in the afternoon meant that we avoided the $20 parking charge. My mystery site of the afternoon is apparently some sort of pilgrim monument; more research required. Also, the fog rolled in, so my view of the beach was hazy, at best. I did note the sternly worded shark warnings, though.
Supper, just before nightfall, was a feed of fish and chips at a restaurant with three seating areas and a staff of students visiting from preferred nations (their nametags included some geography). By the time we returned to our campsite, flashlights were the only means of finding where to park and where to plug in. This should be an early evening.
