The goose rules the road
Using a spreadsheet to track travel trends; now I can be sure of patterns. We now know, through careful analysis, that this is the twelfth place we have stayed for two nights or more. In simpler terms, our crossing the continent and back could have been done mire expeditiously, but we wouldn’t have the same memories.
Today, on our little island getaway, there was time to wander with the dog, learning that the geese just don’t care. They rule the roads. Also, the water is REALLY high, and all those flooded cottages and boathouses on the way in are not much fun. The Seaway exists for commerce; even though you have had a cottage by the shoreline for generations, best that you invest in a pair of good rubber boots. Fishing from the living room window has never been simpler.
We had to try several restaurants before finding something open for the evening. I feared my ears might bleed from the choice of music, but my steak and salad with calamari was excellent. No fast food today. This evening we will watch the sunset before curling up against the chill.
Not much else happening. We are close enough to home that we could get back by midweek, but I think we will see “just a bit more” before reporting to Customs. I took the time to learn a little local history, in case there is an exit exam. I have also checked out the text on those “Posted” signs which seem to be stapled to every third tree or post. No need to swipe one as a souvenir, because I have a photo. The perfect cheap takehome.
