On an island
No more chances on the dog continuing to explore the local community. In passing, he’s showing the same level of stiff joints that I might, if I jumped out the window and toured the streets. Someone posted a map, on Reddit, showing his route based on community-based sightings.
We went back on the tollway and did an end run around Buffalo. No reason to go into the city, as I had watched their local TV channels for years. So many fires! I did find it convenient that the highway was “free” just long enough to get by, and then another set of tolls was imposed, to the east. A few dollars here and there adds up.
We didn’t plan the day (carefully), so we opted to park in a lot in downtown Rochester and wander the streets. A beautiful city! Home of the Eastman family (think Koadk) and the Eastman School of Music (think wind ensembles). My brunch involved chorizo, pinto beans and very tasty mushrooms, swimming with my fried egg in a light gravy. Not at all like things at home. There was also the breakfast cereal restaurant and comic book shop as a tourist attraction.
Then, back on simpler roads, through the vineyards on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. Pretty enough, just like when we stray from the #401. We used an app to find a campground before dark, and this time we ended up on an island. For real. The lake levels are extremely high, and the causeway does get submerged when the wind is from the right quarter. The owner explained that the Great Lakes are too large a system to control easily, and this is the result.
We’re in no danger, short term, but it plays havoc with the trees and fields. Tomorrow, we will be “further down the road”.
