Spiral across the city
With the morning rush period over, we unplugged the van, made a quick stop for bottled fuzzy water and headed off to cross Montreal. Hours of road to get there, and hours to cross, because they’re building a huge bridge AND replacing the Turcot interchange, all at the same time. I don’t know how the regulars handle it, but going in what felt like concentric spirals to go from one side of a city to another isn’t on my fun list.
And then, more hours of driving. Enough time to cross a good section of the next province and head upstream to the “Little Town”. Our only personal detour involved eleven kilometers of river park, where someone with foresight had taken over a series of small hilltops just before the flood waters turned them into islands, half a century ago. Something about a Seaway.
Of course, we noticed high water levels, all day long. Right across the land, rivers are taking back what was theirs, and the water seemed very close to the road edge, over and over again. As well, the fields are still too wet to plow (or we’re too early). Actually, I’ve never gone on a spring vacation before.
At home (my parent’s place) there’s a new puppy in a crate. He’s overflowing with good intentions and energy, so the arrival of our dog in the middle of the living area was a reason to rejoice, vocally. After a quick visit from my youngest sibling, we decided to get to bed. I don’t do long days as well as I used to, and sleeping until noon tomorrow might be fodder for conversation.
