Part of the community
Having spent decades in a state of anonymity, I have had to adjust to rural living. In the city, although you grow familiar with faces that cross your path regularly, not one knows your name. I’ve tested this. Here among the trees, people do recognize you.
This afternoon, two members of a local fraternal group stopped by, with a fruit basket. You see, I’ve (apparently) been hospitalized, even if it only lasted for several hours. Also, I’m now qualifying for the label of “senior citizen”, and it puts you on certain lists. As someone pointed out, that sort of thing never happened in the city, even though I was almost as old, and my stay in the health care system was measurably longer. No, I’m also now a part of the local community, even if marginally, and folks care if you live or die.
Mustn’t get too emotional about my changed status. Remain calm and breathe deeply.
What else is going on around me? Well, I remain “low maintenance”, so if I continue to play hide-and-seek with the world, it won’t upset too many. That version of “hide, and see if anybody seeks”, is how I grade the situation.
We watched more American Idol, last evening, and the quality is still there. Twice doesn’t make it a rule change, but I have high hopes for the rest of the season.
Now that the federal budget has been tabled, we move into the Play portion of politics. There will be a series of votes over the next while, as many as 250 according to the press. Any one loss could force an election, so we (the employers) can expect the honorable members (the employees) to be diligent about showing up for work.
