Just stay on the ground; no crash possible
Running a big corporation is hard. You take the investors’ money, and you buy things like shiny new aircraft, and when that same model starts to do unexpected things (like crash into the ground killing the passengers), you have to make sure the government doesn’t get antsy and forbid you to fly your planes. Sound familiar, Air Canada and WestJet?
Mind, if other countries won’t allow you to land on their soil (or enter their airspace) because of a few, unrelated crash incidents, well… you can safely take the safety decision of not flying there, without any aggression from shareholders. You didn’t make the decision, right? Again, pointing at Air Canada and WestJet.
The federal government might get around to deciding to ground your planes, of that particular model, altogether, again saving you from the wrath of the rich. Until that happens, just remain calm, and calculate the odds of any of your passengers ending up in the ground (some of the planes have hit hard, in other countries, and actually had to be dug out from the soil). You are corporations, and everyone knows that you have no moral fibre.
It’s a pity, from where I sit, that members of the related boards of governors don’t have to do a ride-along, until flights do get cancelled. Might make the decision process into something more motivated.
Right now, there are none of the “Boeing 737 Max 8” aircraft due to fly over here. Later in the season, it could happen. I do hope that the required software updates are installed before they decide to fly and land unexpectedly in my back yard, or yours.
