Banning the Canada Goose

posted in economy |

Happened to catch the suppertime news from a neighbouring province. You know, didn’t get to the channel changer quickly enough. Anyhow, one of the news stories dealt with the reconsideration of certain amateur sporting games. Somehow, the original budget estimate of $17 million has grown,to an amazing $130 million. I don’t know how a planning group could get so far off track; usually we need the government to be involved in the actual implementation of a given project to do such a balloon trick.

I received a new UPS this afternoon, and methinks I didn’t get what I wanted. This one, rather than having standard electrical outlets has sockets to handle the type of cords usually found in a server closet. I can make a workaround (might need to buy one $2 piece at the hardware store), but I wonder how many other clients get this kind of surprise. I’ve been down this road before; the last time involved a lengthy video conference as I tried to explain (to a tech at the other end) that he didn’t need to change the computer. And no, Amazon, your photos did not indicate the finer details.

The escalating situation in China (with the planned extradition of a top business official) has taken a strange twist. China is now banning the import of the iconic Canada Goose. No, not the territorial fowl; the winter coats that cost a lot (but supposedly deliver when the temperature drops). Does this mean that climate change is hitting the East in a new way?
