Lettuce: bad for me

posted in food, Wx |

We were lucky. Up in the other end of the province, the snowfall was real. Here: enough to record your progress, if you went walking. For my part, I settled for a quick pass with the shovel. Don’t want stuff freezing on the steps, this early in the stretch.

And then I went back to watching tutorials on YouTube. I’ll learn something new, or go blind trying. Happily, the iPad is decent in resolution, so I will probably avoid white cane life for a bit longer, although I will ask the doctor about long term forecasts.

Still digging into the roots of others; today, managed to sort out a couple with two different identities. Not all references are equivalent, and when someone gets their names mixed up, others like me suffer through until better records are found.

Lettuce is back on the “bad” list. Not because of changes in nutritional expectations, but due to contamination, in a field, somewhere. The problem for the retailer is that we don’t have any way to track the origin of a given batch, so all product is suspect. Across the continent, Romaine lettuce is going into the dumpster, and your Caesar salad just got yanked from the menu.

I’m due for a return to mashed and gravy, anyway. Comfort food, when healthy isn’t. Sorry, salad bar. And I live in an area where the potato is very highly regarded. Lots of fresh product available in every market. Throw some into a pot of boiling water, stick a fork in to see if they’re done. Profit.
