An alternative to alternative therapies
I’m a skeptic. So many things that others believe with eyes wide open. Me, not so much. Today, for whatever reason, I came across references to a couple of the “alternative” therapies, and I have to react.
First up: reflexology. Had a friend that seriously believed that touching the right place on your foot could cure a whole bouquet of ailments. I look at it with a different filter. If just touching a point can do such things, then why isn’t walking around sufficient. Might be a good way to seek a foot rub.
From the same section of the bookstore: Reiki. As near as I can understand, someone runs their hands over your body, without actually touching you. An erotic massage for those with serious hesitations over contact with others. Is standing in a crowded elevator not enough?
Someone mentioned homeopathy. Again, if diluting a product down to nothing is enough, then why don’t more people get drunk on watered down booze in cheap bars? Or why doesn’t the local water supply cure everything?
There are others. Being a skeptic, I can’t recall any, although I’m sure that the names will flood back, later, when I should be asleep.
Today, another autumn job completed. The BBQ is now in the garage. Alone to face the task, I used the “replace and the rebuild” method, where I disassemble the main (heavy) sections. Each is carried from the deck through the house and then put back into place. Kind of an unintended inspection. Hey, maybe this winter I’ll actually cook something (outside the garage) on a sunny mid-winter day.
