Joined in celebration

The planning of the next leg of our travels, by maps, ahead of time, meant that today’s cross country trek went well. So many route changes, in a land of rocks and trees; what were they thinking?

We spent hours on the road, due to reduced speed limits and almost continuous construction work. And a few “back up and try that route again. But, by mid afternoon we were within swatting distance of the rest of the family. I had never seen the area we covered, before today, so no naps.

When we arrived at my sister’s place, the dog seemed to recognize things. It is possible, as we were here nine months ago. Ditto for most of the people encountered over supper.

Today, my mother celebrated the start of her ninth decade, and we turned it into a general feast. Not wild partying, as we’re all mature, but I finally had to play the big brother card and suggest that it was time for sleeping. Secret: the dog and I were both convinced that a good snuggle with a pillow would be beneficial. Tomorrow is another day, etc.

Caught up on more news with a classmate from a long time ago. So many faces that I’ll probably never see again, due to the constraints of circumstance and geography.

We had the chance to snap a few family photos with all of the siblings together. Nothing fancy, technically, as the average smart phone surpasses what we did with brass, glass and film at a lower cost. As for permanence, I’d rather not touch that “hot potato”.
