Found while retracing my steps
I need a better strategy for “putting things away”. Recently, I stashed the handheld GPS, just to get it off the kitchen table. My assignment of a value meant that I couldn’t just stick it on top of something else, so I went for broke and stored the unit with some other electronic gear, in a tote bag. Turns out I could have used a GPS to find the silly thing.
All is good, now, and after the time spent going through the obvious drawers and shelves, I have an updated map of my environment. I even found the proper electrical cords to use the unit in the new vehicle (because trip logs, etc). It’s just that my time could have been spent doing something else. Like watching the hummingbirds and their war games, over a fresh cup of coffee. Which reminds me…
There. Better. So, a second GPS in the vehicle. No redundancy here. One is meant to direct the driver, and the other is to help us remember where we’ve been. For those long periods between road time, or something. Especially if we decide to park in a huge lot and want to find our way back. Another ideal use for the device. I’m going to find others, along the way, I’m sure. The clock is accurate, so I can forego a wrist (or pocket) watch. One of the menus even purports to identify ideal fishing days (not pertinent, now, but there’s a great future ahead).
And I switched the units back from Maidenhead (ham radio relevant) to a more familiar h.m.s set of coordinates.
