Grass roots political activity
In a move that was really outside of my comfort zone, I did something this evening (for the first time). I attended a local political rally, complete with speeches from the hired help in the city and a secret ballot. No, I’m not elected to anything (as far as I know). And we’re still a long way off from the planting of signs on the front lawn and the singing of old traditional songs from the hustings. Is that even a thing? As I said, this was my first time.
What I did learn is that a smooth cement floor, given a high dew point and several hundred bodies in an enclosed space, can be very slippery. Even for the dog. This was in an arena, so not much of a surprise. Do they make the floor shiny glossy just for the eventual layering of ice, or is this a way to reduce the able-bodied to slow steps?
The heat wave continues. I mean, not at the level of the big city folk, but when you get up into the “close to 30C with almost 100% humidity”, a shower at mid-day is an eventuality. I might need to go for another, come midnight.
In the news, not much to report. Another cast member from Glee (albeit a bit part) is in hospital after an overdose from drugs that shouldn’t be found in the home pharmacy. Is that show cursed? Or is it just a sign that we now have better access to “news” out of Hollywood, unfiltered by the big money companies? In any case, I hope this is an incident, not a fatality.
