Spring traffic jam
I had to drive son #3 to a friend’s house this afternoon. Nothing too difficult in that, except that he didn’t know where the friend lived. Check the phone book. Not listed (Dad’s a doctor). What’s his wife’s name? OK here’s a possibility. No city map to be found. Dig out the GPS and plug in the address. Off we go.
Son #3 can’t read the GPS display, so we drive until we think we’re close. The street name has changed, along with all the civil numbers. Up and down, while the neighbours that are out shovelling the snow off the lawn (this is spring in Quebec City). Finally, the other kid is seen waving, so I can drop the progeny off and head back home.
Impossible to turn left, given the spring traffic (did they all find their cars under the melting snow and decide to go driving the same day?). Turn right, go to the public library where the new computer system can find zero books today. No matter, I can shelf read until I find the book I’m after. Now, back home via another neighbourhood where the streets are full due to a pony ride attraction. Home again, only ninety minutes later than expected. And people wonder why I think the city bus is acceptable for getting from here to there.
