Science, not fantasy

posted in food |

I’m all for giving a place in government to the “common man”. But, in the case of a certain US congressman, sitting on the House Science, Space and Technology Committee… nope. Rising sea levels are NOT due to rocks falling in the water. Back to basics for you. I may not have great depth in scientific knowledge, but I’m able to sort the stupid out from the unproven. The same goes for those who believe the earth to be flat.

Locally, my squirrels are sending out the new recruits. This morning, between “I see you” and “I have you in the cage”, a total of 35 seconds. Not the wiliest of creatures. Are dried sunflower seeds really that good?

I happened to get a message from a family friend, hoping that I could find out some family tree info. For me, an ideal way to spend the afternoon; I now have seven generations in a fan, all drawn from records in the Netherlands. I learned a bit more about naming traditions, and some geography. A fair trade for recording a bunch of names and related dates.

Video footage in from Newfoundland, where it snowed this afternoon in the Gros Morne region. Ties in with our own experience over there. No Gulf Stream, no balmy weather. Mind you, I’m ready to head back and see if anything has changed. As a research project. OK, I like the place. And the food. I watched the Anthony Bourdain special on Newfoundland cuisine and I’m not paying attention to the basics .
