Skating on very thin ice

posted in technology |

Skating videos. From downtown Ottawa and downtown Quebec City. Who would have thought? It’s that freezing rain; removes friction from the equation, even though gravity is still in force. Our turn is scheduled for tomorrow morning, which is why I have pile all my recycling bags by the curb. Should the monthly truck arrive at the right time, I can learn the technique for industrial icebreaking.

Speaking of which, we could see a bright light last evening, just offshore. With the help of AIS, I could tell that it was a “pleasure craft”, but my guess is that their sail past led them straight into the ice. Hence the need for all the candlepower. I checked again, this morning, and the boat had successfully rounded the point, on its way to elsewhere. The speed/time graph shows that their two hours spend within sight of my kitchen window might have been better scheduled for a midsummer run.

Had to transport a seed bandit this morning, the first of the season.  I’m experienced in the foolish task, and so I used the run to stop and make payment for another season of snow removal. The captain was busy preparing his boat for transport to the shore, so I didn’t linger. Mustn’t block marine traffic. Not even in a driveway.

In the presidential  dailies, I learned that one of the big voices at Fox also shares an attorney with the president. That seizure of records may have swept some smaller fish into the net. Even though the Man from Fox has tried to keep a certain segment of the population misinformed over the last few weeks, he’s been caught out… blame the judge who spilled the beans.
