Culture creation
This is not the time to stress unduly, but the heirs to the world curling crown are down two games in a row in the Olympics. That’s not considered as “best strategy” when your goal is gold, right? I must wait until tomorrow and see if there is improvement, before getting all topsy-turvy about misdirected rocks.
Perhaps this is why the Games are held every four years. To allow the rest of us (the non-athletes) time to recover from a bad run.
Meanwhile, I’m busy creating cultures. Yesterday, a standard batch of yogurt, prepared in tiny glass jars and now “setting up” nicely in the refrigerator. Today, a change in procedure; since the glass jars are already filled, I’ve adapted a one-litre glass dish. My volume matched the capacity, and everything fit into the incubator without any undue distortion. We’re still a couple of hours away from judgement, but I remain hopeful that my powdered milk is congealing properly (is congeal the right descriptor?). Think thick. I mean, people have been turning milk into spoonable content for centuries, in the sack on the side of a horse for much of that. With all my gear, and the promise of powdered culture (that worked yesterday) this is probably a slam dunk.
Another mass shooting in a school in the US. Almost a regular event, in a country where access to firearms seems to trump everything else. (Note: even a change in the presidency won’t correct idiotic tendencies). Time to rethink their devotion to the 2nd amendment.
