But who will take my money?

posted in economy |

Some confusing news, in the world of online payments. The merchant to the world, aka eBay, has decided to disassociate from PayPal, the money end of the system. I know, they’d already gone through a friendly divorce some time ago, but for people like me there was nothing visible. With fifteen years of experience in letting the two empty my pockets, I had no complaints.

Now, another firm will take over the payment end of the system. Not immediately; the phase shift will require a couple of years to actually be completed, but I foresee a degree of distrust that will grow. Will people continue to send money to a firm that is being replaced? I’ll adopt the “wait and see” approach, but this wasn’t something I expected.

At home, I took advantage in a change in the weather, to go out and see what the wind had done. I quickly realized that my ladder was not long enough to be useful, so I hacked away the dangling participle, cleaned up the corner as well as I could and sent off some photos to the contractor.

We’ve been here for almost three years; any call for support goes with the worry that we’ll have worn out our welcome. So far, so good… I had a reply within the hour, saying that it will be repaired and could I wait until a warmer day. Yes, I can! Wind damage is unpredictable, and knowing that the firm who built the place has my back is very comforting. Here’s a photo, to show what minor winds can do.
