Proved proactive
I anticipated the bulb failure mentioned yesterday, and headed off to the “parts store” at the crack of dawn. Literally; I had the sunrise in the rear view mirror. Not important. What does matter is that with the information I already had, plus the car owner manual which had very different information, plus the lookup tools available to the guy behind the counter… I purchased an assortment of tiny jewels and headed home. Cheap jewels, about $20 total. If I had insisted on LED technology, I could have quadrupled the bill.
And then, as the temperature rose outside (it went all the way to 16C today), I gathered up the necessary tools. Including that set of socket wrenches purchased at Pascal a full three decades ago, and used infrequently since. With a sound YouTube education, I knew exactly what to poke and what to pull. Soon, the pile of pieces in the driveway grew. I exaggerate, but only a little.
Made a discovery. Some of the advertising flyers that are thrown haphazardly into the entry each week had been recycled. Into a nest. Inside the ventilation ducts of the engine. I own a shop-vac, which is designed for just such a cleanup. The nest is no more. And, again using my new education, I swapped out six different bulbs. Only one was defective, but winter is coming. Best to be proactive said the man in the video.
And now the car flashes on demand. Stomp your foot – lights. Flick the lever – lights. I feel very proud of my accomplishment.
