Overload of tourists in the town
Some years ago, a very large cruise ship “landed” in Quebec City and the traffic through the area ground to a halt for hours. Fast forward to yesterday, when eight very large cruise ships (including the one from years ago) all arrived in port together. Forget the ballet to give everyone a mooring point. That meant an additional 16,700 tourists exploring the nooks and crannies of the souvenir boutiques.
I’m glad I missed the fun. Shoulder-to-shoulder works with friends, but umpteen thousand strangers? Better to see it on TV.
Around here, the wife went biking and I stayed in the kitchen because… no real excuse. I haven’t trained the hound to hold the handlebars, so a circus act on my own bike was out of the question. Better that we stay here as a support team. In case of a flat, we could go and provide a pickup service. Or a flat-fixing service. Take your pick.
Meanwhile, Charlottetown had its own crowded downtown, for something called Farm Days. Again, send me a video. I can’t imagine the pleasure of scooping behind our fur ball, as he freaked over the number of strange faces. And farms; we’ve got those right outside the door. No need to play tourist. I jest, barely.
In politics, the federal NDP elected a new leader today, on a single ballot. Unity. Now if they can carry the momentum forward in the two years to follow, before an actual election is called. Be a first for them, to be sure. I wish the new kid luck (they’re all so young, nowadays!!)
