Own the show
We attended a concert this evening. Based on my efforts through the day, I’m calling this one my own.
I was over at the Rec Centre in the early afternoon, as part of a setup crew. No big effort; place a hundred chairs and assure that a cash table was ready for ticket sales later in the evening. Then, I headed home, to pass a quiet afternoon. It rained today. That’s worth mentioning, given the extended dry spell we’ve had. A full 20mm of rain, which took the edge of the browning lawn. The winds came up, the rain fell, the temperature dropped and we returned to “the usual sunny weather” within a couple of hours.
Phase two: back to the Rec Centre to purchase a pair of tickets and take our places for a themed variety show. Island talent, with some serious chops on their instruments. Old tunes, most from my childhood, on the subject of the Island railway. That’s something that is near and dear to me, and the banter between songs had a historical tilt. An evening well spent, in retrospect.
With the concert over, we drove up to St. Peter’s for a fireworks display. Excellent places, on the north side of the bay. One surprise was meeting someone I’d worked with for a number of years. That old line about “you never know who’ll you’ll see” holds true. And with the concert over, we returned under bright moonlight along the North side. No wildlife spotted, to my surprise.
