No bars, anywhere
Imagine yourself with a cellphone. Now, modify that image… imagine yourself with a cellphone AND no service. Zero bars. Anywhere within easy driving distance. Many in eastern Canada had that dystopian reality, today, after a fibre link was cut in the Montreal area. Turned off service from central Ontario through to the limits of life on the Rock.
Not me; I cut that scourge out of my life almost three years ago, but just about everyone I know. Even my landline didn’t ring. Does that mean that the idiots who call several times a day to lower my credit card rates are using cell service? Food for thought. Anyhow, I had always been told that fibre systems relied on redundance. Pity that Bell missed that day in class.
Things are back “up”, now.
I decided to let YouTube set me up with a random playlist. Lots of names that I didn’t know, and an excuse to hear some new tunes. Plenty of good stuff out there. Without naming names, I found new talent out of New Zealand, for example.
The kids are starting to plan vacation time. A chance to find new restaurants and craft breweries, as well as secluded beaches. Welcome to my Island! I’ll try to restrain my need to preach, and let them find their own roads to paradise. Hey, maybe I’ll learn from them. Something to consider, even if all the good places will be closing for the winter. I might get out, once or twice, before the snow flies.
