Almost a diploma
Seems like ages ago, now. I pledged a token amount of money toward the eventual “making of a movie” for some local talent. Today, in the mail, an envelope. Inside, stickers. I guess it must be the thought that counts.
Not much else going on, right? I happened to catch another movie, this time straight outta Cork. The Young Offenders. A giggle, once you catch the tune in the voices. Great scenery, to boot. And bicycles. I’ll stop, before I give away too much of the plot.
Down in the Beltway (that’s what they call it, so help me), the crazy stuff just goes on and on (and on). When you figure that they’ll run out of plot twists, they trump themselves. How will it end? Right now, folks are just praying that it does.
In northern Quebec, the graduating classes from 2014-15 forward have learned that their high school diplomas aren’t exactly. Turns out that the school board responsible had failed to meet program standards, and the attestations came with some fine print. In a further twist, the school board says that it is trying to resolve the issue, with the intention of getting the academic train back on track. Can you see the difficulty here (because the school board obviously doesn’t)? The rectified programs (should they get there) won’t apply to those who have slipped out of their desks and gone off to see what life has in store. In other words, unless the government waves a magical diploma wand, it’s back to class for people who really don’t consider that as an option.
