The camera is still rolling

The world of DIY (do it yourself) videos is fascinating. So much enthusiasm, coupled with an ignorance  about the rules of cause and effect. With YT, there’s also a sense of mystery. What happened, in the end. Why isn’t there a conclusion to the drama.

Some anecdotes, from my watch list.

Someone buys an electric ice-making machine, connected to the water line. The new system can produce a minimum of twelve kilograms of ice cubes, each night. What I want to know is if the on/off switch works, when you go away for a few days and forget to turn off the juice.

Someone buys a new set of batteries for the house trailer, and figures out that the place under the stairs will be big enough. If you use a hacksaw and cut away those support struts. So, did the batteries fit? Did anyone die when the stairs collapsed?

Up on the roof, to patch a leak. Is a hammer and nails really appropriate? The viewers want to know.

Back to the battery guy, who explains that you just need to attach the plus and minus leads together.

Plumbing repairs, without cutting off the water first. Was the new fountain a planned feature?

Nothing can go wrong, right? Making your own tow hitch with some junks of pipe from the hardware store. Can I watch, from a distance?

If you have ever seen historical footage from the early days of aviation, you know that progress comes at a cost. That might have been a century ago, but we’re still doing stupid stuff, and the cameras are still recording. No need to wait for the news reels, because everything migrated to YouTube.
