Watch the door

posted in Uncategorized |

This afternoon, we have a second dog on site. The blue-eyed boy from up the road. He’s  very well behaved. Almost angelic, with a stealth mode. And although we had no incidents, it helps to remain on high alert, when it comes to open doors.

Put one on the tether, at a time. Don’t leave the door ajar, because it’s a wild world, fit for exploration. While you are otherwise occupied, the second dog will go exploring. I know these things.

Our local general store is undergoing some renovations. I’ve heard. I actually assumed that things would be done already, but little matter. The store is about to become a vendor of licit spirts. I can’t say how things were, before, but the history of the area talks about ships off shore, and landings on cloudy nights when the “revenuers” were distracted. That’s why this will be a first in the area: a vendor with a permit.

:There’s a holiday, tomorrow, in the minds of the young. Free candy, distributed to those in costume. No need to traipse from door to door. Centralized distribution. And no snow on the ground. Children have things easy. Why, we had to get the pillow case off our bed, surreptitiously, bring our booty back to be checked and shared, avoid the tricksters that might drop small explosive charges into your cargo and then rob you. That never happened to me, but I was on high alert. Do people still hand out apples? Or molasses chew candy? Just wondering.

In any case, our donation to the big evening will be there, at the appointed  hour.
