What to watch?
What should (I/we) watch? That, along with being a great question, describes the current way that the average movie gets chosen. I don’t mean the ones that you watch in a commercial palace, with an ambient odour of fake butter. This is more for those with access to streaming services, at home. Just about everyone.
Now, let’s agree on one thing. The range of movies is so broad that actually choosing ONE can seem like climbing a famous summit. But, there are tools. IMDB springs to mind, although actually limiting your choices to something available can take time. So much to read. And watch. The average trailer is a baited trap. Not destined to capture those in their homes, with no intention of going outside.
I’ve (perjaps) discovered an alternative. Curated lists. Even better, selected excerpts. There ae people that love to upload short movie segments to YT, with catchy titles. This afternoon, I went for a wander. Limited my choices to movies that I had already seen, because I wanted to see if the bait matched my taste. And it works, within reason.
Remember that movies about the birthing pangs of “the facebook”? Good movie. Or how about that machine that was used to crack codes during a war from before my time. Good movie. The visiual segments are richer than a simple paragraph in a review. I think I might bave found something that works for me. I do advise caution. Watching movies will eat up the hours. You could read a book (although you won’t). Or go to a real movie theatre for something new and expensive (I won’t). For now, I will go with Netflix, and chill.
