The billing begins
There are those who work for the public good, and there are those who work for profit. As this area recovers from one of the largest natural disasters in my lifetime, I have to point out that private companies are not your friend. Pointing to the public utilities and fuel merchants.
I’ve been reading some of the anecdotes posted on Twitter, from people that want “the power” back. Not political power, per se. More in the line (lines) of electricity. Yes, some of us are mightily pleased that “the lights” are back. We did our part, at a price. Others are still waiting, many days later. Too many trees. Too many broken wires. Too much attention to getting the wealthy sector all fixed. That golf course and country club has done well. Some seniors, close by… not so much. We’ll probably never know what decision tree was employed.
Today, the propane tanker arrived. Actually, ahead of schedule. I am really pleased about that. If the generator isn’t required for the next year or more, I will still have some security. The firm has agreed to upgrade our storage, and provide a gauge. Almost as if they had read my recent post. This might be serendipity, or karma. I don’t care. When the tanker came and went (five minutes max), I decided to say only kind things. The bill hasn’t come, yet. I don’t care. Similarly, the bill for patching the roof is in. We will now see if home insurance is more than wishful thinking. The roof is repaired, and the rest is just a detail.
