Switch the pump; from reactive to proactive
The weather can change, overnight. In one day, this hemisphere moved from zero to five names hurricanes. And with that, we moved the abticipation switch from reactive to proactive. Got some recommendations, and went local for a new pump to sit in the wet pit. High water, this close to the ocean.
What does this mean? Well, we have a brand new (albeit untested) sump pump. I did not feel like I could get all the “ducks in a row”, so I have a newly trained sump pump technician on site. Yes, she has learned another home repair skill. Basic plumbing, where adapters are the rule. For some obscure reason, the industry has a myriad of measurements. Fitting pipe A to pipe B will require special hardware, even when duct tape is available.
The old pump is out. Gone, soon. The new pump is an equivalent in capacity, but a slightly different switch strategy. Still floats. I could carry multiple pails or water for a test; I an going to wait for rain. There will be rain.
While over at the general store, which will soon sell beer but can furnish pumps until then, I talked with my cousin that has actual experience with satellite based Internet. General stores are good for many things. The advice holds. We will be glad to give the old Bell a final ding, and then make space for a dish that looks like a flat screen whatever. I am ready for the challenge. And the faster downloads. Something I have wanted for years, but the technology doesn’t always arrive when you would like.
Now, back to waiting for rain.
