Random soundscapes

posted in Uncategorized |

Today’s soundscape inchludes a large truck, on a country road. The need to slow down with what must be a heavy load includes the assistance of the truck motor the brake. The distance is short; a matter of seconds, really. Just after that, the unique sound of a dumptruck tailgate, clanging like a bell, to signal the empty status of the bin. And then the truck rolls away. No need to go to my window; I have almost the whole story. I just want to learn the “who” and the “why”, to complete my mental image.

I heard a helicopter go over, just a few minutes ago. Low and slow. Now, what was that all about? We don’t get much aviation around here; much more suited to ships. Could that be someone checking on a big boat? Will someone please let me know. The tension is palpable.

Actually, the afternoon continues. Time passages. And that one truck (I can tell from the tones) continues to haul loads of what must be dirt (had a spy go by earlier, and dirt it is). No gravel rattle. But we’re up to a lot of loads, now. Why? Moe one open question. Also, the chopper made another couple of passes, so I’ve confirmed most of my suppositions.

Just out to replentish hummer feeder two. The south side. And the little bits of  colour must wait. The feeder was empty, and by the time I did the refill and rehang on the handy hook, I was already under aerial attack. Protecting their property. I know the game. In a few weeks, they will be gone. South, in a real sense. I’ll cleabn the feeders and wait for the next year. No, they don’t wave goodbye. I’m just a detail in their lives.
