Sit in the sun and sip

posted in Uncategorized |

There are things that I should do more often. I don’t mean hiding away in the basement. Rather, things like going to a local restaurant, sitting outside with a large bowl of seafood chowder and strawberry shortlcake. Truth is, this was my first time, ever. I shouldn’t have skipped opportunities like this. Perhaps I won’t, in future. It’s really a summer moment, and the dog stayed back to watch the house (actually, sleep on our bed, and then pretend that he had been the guardian of everything while we played in the sun). We knew.

According to the calendar, this is a national holiday. Rumours of fireworks this evening, if we head down and join the (tiny) crowd. Our local town is hardly a metropolis; parking should be simple. I haven’t gone to many large pyrotechnic moments in past. When the century changed, we had gathered on a local hilltop and realized just how cold it can be in winter. This, by contrast, is a a muggy summer day. Wait. Does that signal stormy weather? I’ll have to check the probs.

And I sat outside, more than once today. Fueled by coffee and a realization that my opportunities for slumming will run out eventually.

Did I do anything else? Talked to some family (extended).Realized that unless I look for them, I can totally miss gude ropes. Listen to a beanbag toss competition and have no urge to compete. Sit in the sun. Oh, wait. I did do that. Good for me. And I became part of someone’s prifile picture. It looked lke me, a little bit.
