New life skills; now include attending meetings remotely. In my “old job”, that was one of my special tasks. I kept a whole group of indviduals in the same virtual room, using video conference equipment. It worked, almost always. And I learned to intervene graciously because administrators are best handled with gently interventions.
But let’s move on. I now get to attend occasional meetings from the comfort of my prefered couch. The faces are in muted tones of gray (my eyes, which remove all colors from my sight). I remain stoic. Silent. A raised thumb. Not having to zoom over is cool. And with an agenda and careful attention to protocol, an amazing amount gets done.
This is all new. There’s an undercurrent of interest in keeping me involved. In life, outside the house. I feel like an emieritus; my input won’t dump our ship on shoals, and I can feign to be still useful. Creative. I may never drop another rental agreement, but I now understand the reasons for such things.
Today’s virtual shopping has me looking at the latest generation of small communications receivers. Yes, I have other, bigger, faster rigs around, but this would be something to pack in my overnight case, if I ever go overnight. I admit, I’m still a junkie over tech toys. And I can easily fit a new acquisition into my restrained budget. After all, I’ve reduced my expenses to a position just to the left of discretionary. Call it my “special budget envelope”. With online videos, I can let others interpret all the tech stats, and then I throw my pieces of virtual silver on the countertop. Coma on, vendor, send me something to feed that GAS beast.
