A new game
I have a new game, for 2022. It’s called “Mystery Controls”.
Most of us have a series of specialized machines through the house. We usually refer to them in generic terms: Refigerator. Stove. Dishwasher. Laundry. Familiar “faces”, if you will. And with any luck, you’ve already used them, in their designated roles. Cooking. Cleaning. The usual.
Now, just for the sake of the game, pretend that you cannot actually see the labels on the controls. Be careful. Some are wet. Others are hot. Each according to their purpose. This evening, I brought some frozen pieces of fish (my menu may be boring, but it is balanced). Got the oven up to temperature (it beeped, and my fingertips did a tenuous verification). Timed my heating, removed everything as instructed and then made an educated guess about how to turn things off. No, I didn’t cut the main house breaker, but that was always there as a reserve option.
So far, I’ve done tests with most of the appliances, and I think it all went swimmingly (no flooding, in case you had a moment of “Oh God”, there.) I’m so confindent that I’ll get into the ice cream later. Little danger for my fingertips, even if brain freeze is possible.
The UPS guy brought some new reading glasses (my original pair were starting to have serious Harry Potter vibes). Knowing that replacement pairs are just a web purchase away is good news. What did we do before the web? And it’s very nice outside. I’ll let the dog dance on the end of his cord for a bit longer, as he entertains the local fox community with his inabliity to get close.
