How do you brew?
How do you brew your coffee? If you tell me that your method involved a spoon and a jar of instant poison, we can’t be friends. I’m too old to risk stopping by for a quick visit and having you serve me some Nescafe. And the missing accent is intentional.
At home, I have some technologies that reflect a long life of trying for better flavour. There’s a Moka pot, which I don’t understand. It is pretty. There’s a drip maker, where the paper filter is important, and you can produce a pot that is fast and apt to be sinked (poured out, after one cup). There’s an Aeropress that is better in the open air. Campsite open air. And we have the machine that gets turned on at the start of every day. A mid-level Espresso robot.
If I was rich, I might invest the value of a cheap car in one of the architecurally interesting apparati that I see in photos, but I’m not there yet. We do grind on demand. I’ve learned that grinding a whole bag of beans at the market isn’t recommended.
Now, if you want to have an educational (month), delve into the various YT videos. There are as many ways to prepare a cup as there are people doing so, it seems. I’m at a point where my morning cup is consistent and hot, and anything beyond is for academic interest.
I will not be returning to the days of a hand-cranked grinder and recycled filters. Also, I would be completely out of my element in one of the retail outlets. Not into Starbucks.
