In anticipation

posted in Uncategorized |

Funny what triggers anticipation. Today, a phone call. Someone had spotted a propane tanker, crossing the Black Pond hollow. Without getting stuck, which is a good thing. Anyhow, that tanker is awaited, at my house. We’ve been running on hope and fumes for a bit, fully aware that without propane, we are one power outage from digging out the sleeping bags and cuddline with the mutt. The mutt doesn’t actually say so, but he avoids huggy humans.

It was a false alert, today, but we’re scheduled for a delivery in the next few days. Just a reminder that anticipation doesn’t keep the lights on I.

Last evening, we received a mandatory nose swab at the provincial checkpoint. Unlike the last time around, we were given no (zero) test kits, that are needed to do any home tests. And in keeping with our ramped up sense of healthy fear, we asked for some at the local pharmacy. The new fee is Twenty Dollars per. We own four, and if robbers come, they will have to fight vigourously for our kits.  wish that was all it required, in passing.

Before, you had to ask but you would receive. Today, we were told that the current price would be much greater, and our responsibility.

I wondered what happened to free access for all. Was there an underground market sucking the tests out from the stream, or did the government run out of funding. I suspect the latter. The continuation of the pandemic will bring other changes to our expectations, I expect.
