Musically predictive

I’m going to play a little game here. Musical. Just for fun. Imagine a song. Go ahead, I’m not judgemental.  Perhaps you really vibe to Happy Birthday.

For some, it is just too loud

They were different times, apparently. Right now, the vaccine question rears huge on the social horizon. In certain areas, you are “for” or “against”. No middone (or common) ground. Now, I’ve been alive long enough to have received a number of important inoculations. And for the life of me (because, due to those inoculations, I have life).

Food, or soap?

There’s a new  test in our kitchen. If I see a nicely decorated, mouth-sized sample of anything, I now read the label. Turns out that locally prepared soaps and locally prepared candies have much in common. They (names aren’t important) haven’t caught me yet, but I know it is an eventuality. Especially since soaps and confections share a lot of odours.

Ready for the cold period

There are undertones of sadness, with the realization that ’21 will not be the “year of the road warriors”. We can’t cross the border, and we can’t tour the nearby provinces without undue stress. Our single trip, up to see the kids, is now going  to have to feed our memory. So be it. Some things can’t be changed, just by wishing.

Just stay home

When your car is just a big battery, going to zero is not a good idea. We’re learning. I can now deploy my fancy intelligent charging pack without hesitation, or needing to read the instructions. Just plug thing together and let it run. For the afternoon. I never said this was a fast fix.

Shall I fly, hover or crash?

Knowledge that I will never use, part ‘really big number”. I came across a short capsule on how to fiy a helicopter. No worries; unless things change for the better, I won’t even get to sit in the passenger seat. But, I’m better to know why the pilot needs both arms and feet. Collectively, no pun intended.

Dead batteries? I hope that’s all it is

It could be that I’ve delayed this one job for too long. I have an antenna, and I have special test equipment that will verify that antenna and let me know the fund stuff: resonant points, SWR, etc. The test gear is battery operated, and after finding things “dead in the water”, I’ve put it on trickel charge.

Service outage

Early October, 2021. In the news… only one thing, really. For reasons unknown, Facebook and the satellite services of Instagram and WhatsApp are MIA. Don’t blame your local ISP; this time we’re global. Millions and millions of people, hitting refresh and weeping. Nothing. No news. Your library of memes, unreachable. Why, things are so bad that the actual FB employees are wandering aimlessly. Some are locked out of their office building, and others why go inside earlier today can’t go from room to room. Prisoners.  From the official channels, a huge shoulder shrug.

Go for a walk, I was told

To be fair, I was pushed. Outside. Go for a walk, with the dog, I was told, before I simply died from heart failure in my favourite chair. Or old age. Both are risks, once you move beyond childhood. No matter. The dog was all too willing to lead me hither, thither and yon. Down the hill, to the lake (lagoon, technically, but let’s go with lake for simplicity).

Better masks? Maybe

If I take advice from Scientific American, my masks are insufficient. Inefficient. Inexpensive, actually. We’re not done with facewear just yet, and so the need
