They are back! With a buzz and a whir, the first of the sugar hawks arrived at our front side feeder, this morning. Of course, I took the time to record the sighting on a special website that has a daily map update going on, for years. Yes, I can check back to see if this is early or late arrival. No, I haven’t.

I haven’t been to the city in many months. Seems I’ve missed out on getting close to a certain politician. Actually, a statue of a politician, who has a personal bench and seems to get into many selfies. Popular? Not with everyone. There are some who take great glee in adding touches of colour to an otherwise drab pile of bronze. Red paint Is the preferred method.

For anyone that thinks the lobster roll is a quick, delicious snack… don’t try it at home. Getting the meat out of the body armour is more work than I would want to tackle on a regular basis.

The idea of breaking apart and then eating the insides of Homarus americanus leaves me glad that there are hamburgers on an alternate menu. However, someone else in the family negotiated a purchase, did the delivery and now I’ll try to assist in the disassembly. Perhaps I’ll melt some butter. It’s a meal for a special occasion.

Just a head’s up for some of you; the BBQ wings in the frozen food section aren’t as good as the one from your better restaurants. Not as tasty, not as much of a treat. And yes, I did cook them, twice (despite the box brag that they are precooked). Got all of the frost out, but that sauce in a plastic sack is to be avoided. It was a meal on a whim. A response to cabin fever. Next time, I’ll go for a grilled cheese sandwich.

Just came in from putting the dog out, so that he could go on fox watch. In passing, that is quite different from watching Fox; I wouldn’t force a dog to do that. Anyhow, it made me pause and realize just how dependent he is on the rest of the household for everything. He can’t scoop kibble, he can’t fetch water from the kitchen faucet, he doesn’t know how to reach the yellow bags of assorted treats that we store high over his head. We really serve his needs.

Having lived in a large city for better than three decades, I still take note of things that go on. Politically, the population learned today that the present mayor will not be offering again (he sat in the big chair for a full fourteen winters). Kind of a big deal, given the multi-billion dollar infrastructure projects that are underway. I mean, there are a lot of construction firms that will now be trying to see the future, given the way monies are distributed. I’ll be watching this one.

And everyone threw their traps into the ocean and went home for lunch. Perhaps not exactly how it happened, but we have another year of lobster fishing underway. I was up at coffee time; early enough to see boats on the go, because the rule makers had adjusted their watches, and gave the starting signal at 9:00 this morning. A full three hours later than other years. And because I wasn’t at the wharf, I don’t know if this still qualifies as a “starting pistol” sort of sport, but from the photos and videos, people were calm and professional as they left the harbour entrance in a long, single boat queue.

The following photo proves three things: winter is over, there are flowers in May and even really scrappy ground can support those flowers.

Mathematics; no way to avoid the stuff. Why just today I watched a feeder globe, filled with seeds, fly through the air before delivering a paload to the lawn.Twice! And it landed in the same spot on both occasions! Math is the only way to explain how this worked.
