What does not exist cannot be copied

This is the time of the season when the weather watchers become intoxicated with optimism. After all, no matter how much snow has fallen during our cold season, we’re ready for it to be done. As one fellow says on the forum “I’m ready to stick a fork in it”.

Scared by my supper

Does it really matter if your food looks like some imagined monster from a bad horror film? Not  really, if the taste is suitable. I’m referring, obliquely, to shrimp. Specifically, the ones found in my local market.

Dialing back the brightness

With my damaged eyesight, I worry about the future. At what point will I have to alter my lifetime of habits? Will the required strategies be more than I can easily handle? I know that this will be a part of my reality, as sure as the sun shines.

A ladder that does everything!

As the renos move up the stairwell, I’ve developed a fascination with the ladder. Not a step ladder, per se; more of a pretzel that can be reconfigured in many forms. It permits access to the far reaches of the stairwell, as long as you have a team of pretzel-benders. Two of us, minimum. I like adaptable technology. Can’t justify owning one, yet, but it seems so practical. Here’s a picture.

A streak of colour

My turn will come. That’s my mantra for getting vaccinated. What makes this important is that “they” are already starting to discuss how the extra doses will be sent elsewhere. Hey! Not so fast! Some of us (a lot of us, actually) are still waiting on our precious little injection. If you are so convinced that we are swimming in the stuff, how about speeding up the master plan, so that I can lose my fear of just about everyone outside my household.

Finding lost family

Time to focus on the task at hand; in just a few minutes, we will serve as the place to stay for two lads and their dog. Nothing permanent. A few hours off-time for the parents. We’ve brought in some bags of non-nutritional food, and my TV will offer channels from (I actually don’t know). We’ll discover, together.

The cost of keeping my feet warm

An integral part of our decision to replant the family in new fields (our move here) was the chance to rethink the house. Specifically, how we would heat the place. I was adamant that an oil truck wouldn’t  be welcomed, and I didn’t see myself trundling loads of firewood from now until that final day.

Pay for that unused service

Maybe I should fly more. The whole industry has been off my radar for a long time, and learning that the government is about to offer a seven billion dollar bailout is wrong, on so many levels.

When the ads outweigh the content stream

I get it. The internet would disappear if it wasn’t for those targeted ads. However, not everything I type is a lead to a sale. Yesterday, I asked a sibling and a friend about a particular “essential oil worn by hippies”. Today, Amazon hit me up to buy some. Now, that was fast! I still don’t know what the stuff smells like. For the record, I won’t be acquiring a vial to satisfy my curious nature. It would be more fun to wander through a flower power party.

Hide your kid-lit

The library corner devoted to Dr. Seuss is special. For many children in America, his simple rhymes serve as a foundation in the pile of books that every child is likely to read. Now, keep in mind that Mr. Geisel died almost thrty years ago. His many books have content that might not haved aged well. The estate has decided to delist almost ten percent of his published work. If you have hardcover volumes in your personal library, hide them well.
