A community says farewell

posted in media |

In one of those “you won’t know it’s over until it’s over”, our local TV news lost their core, this week. In a double whammy, brought on by retirement, for one and career redirection, for the other, the two people that anchored the suppertime program will be gone, as of tomorrow. This evening, a huge public reception was held (and shown in simulcast via Facebook Live). I joined the close to two thousand “off site” participants.

Almost a roast. A retrospective of their respective careers. Lots of fun; funny more than anything else. Bruce and Boomer, you’ll be missed! Oh yes, don’t adjust the colours…

Life will continue, but this moment will be one for the books.

TV affects us, in so many ways. One of the major political parties is in the midst of their search for a new leader. Last evening, the front runner stepped out of the way. His background as a reality show superstar wasn’t enough to keep him on the way to the eventual crown. The rest of the country gave a small sigh of relief; we know from what’s going on a bit further south that reality TV isn’t exactly reality. The continent isn’t ready for that sort of double whack-a-mole. Goodbye, Mr. Wonderful!

Around here, a full day of fog. Listening to the ferry transit just below us was neat. If only I had my own foghorn, we could perform a maritime duet. Is that allowed? I could explain to the authorities that I was just doing my part to warn of dangerous shoals.
