Champions!

posted in photography, sports |

Good TV weekend for curling fans. The World Championship (Men’s) will be decided within the next few hours, and my hope is that the Canadian team will prevail. After all, the round robin went by with them undefeated (11-0). The playoffs have also gone well, and the gold game starts just before my regular bedtime (time zone madness). If this sound familiar, it’s because we’re repeating the sequence laid down in the World Championship (Women’s) less than a fortnight ago. Although the counters (stones?) get reset next season, a double win for the country would certainly convince others that “we understand curling”.

Remember, I’m just a spectator. The last time I touched a curling stone goes back to BC (before children).

Taking a look at shutter stats, today, on our two main cameras. The wonder of electronics! Just upload a .JPG and within minutes you have the manufacture date of a particular body, along with an indication of how many times the trigger has been pressed. If I look back to analog days, with my trusted Spotmatic II, I can only guess. Just trivia, but given the problems with one of the two cameras, a replacement has been ordered. We take “thousands and thousands” of photos, so the investment is just that. Not ready to step back from the viewfinder. Lots to see and record ahead.

In fact, I’m due for a walk on the beach, before all the ice disappears. Might get a photo worth showing to others, if the light is right. If not, exercise is good for what ails me (now, and in future).

Just short of midnight, and Team Gushue wins the gold!
