First step towards a status of landowner
A slowly deflating air mattress is a great incentive to get up and about. Our backs are starting to bump at inopportune times, so we may have to find the air pump and try to restore our temporary bed to its former firm state. Since we were already up, we gave that extra push and headed into Souris before the urge to eat breakfast became unbearable. In to see the realtor, if you know what I mean.
The piece of land we surveyed yesterday has hooked our interest. There aren’t that many lots available where we want to settle, and the thought of spending years more on the lookout for something when we already like this one has pushed us to the edge. This morning, we “made an offer” that I hope the current owners won’t refuse.
There’s a lot of red tape before any yellow tape is attached to the boundary markers. For us, we are prepared, so the mandatory check for Big Brother on whether or not we are into cleaning currency is just a detail. Similarly, the umpteen clauses (of a contractual nature) on our offer, and the exact prerequisites before anything is considered as done. One big concession was the perc test, which falls to the present owner instead of us. Just a detail, but I don’t own a front end loader or the will to dig a pit of some legal dimension.
Our offer will now be forwarded to the seller for acceptance or refusal or amendment, and my hopes are based on choice number one. There are statutory delays, and I have to find a lawyer (much better than a lawyer finding me, I guess). I have a list of names, and the telephone directory has a few more to offer.
We’re now down in town, after finding that the Trailside Cafe in Mount Stewart isn’t open every day (unlike other years). We are enjoying the tranquility of the public library, where wireless and electricity are free to the likes of us, dressed for a day at the campground.
