Constructing supper

posted in health |

Some meals require more “hands on” than others. The real, lay down a foundation, pour the cement, cut the materials kind of meals. One example is a large pan of lasagna.

Think about it. All the skills of a new MBA go into the planning phase. Budget. Timeline. Purchasing. Shipping and receiving. All before a single pan is pulled out from the bottom cupboard. How many of those big old noodles are needed, anyhow?

Then the craftspeople hit the worksite. Fry the hamburger without a single burn. Drain off the waste. Mix in the two kinds of pasta sauce (no ordinary taste need apply). Put the great panful aside. Time to boil water.

Stuck together noodles just won’t do, so this is a carefully boiled potful. Then, lay down the layers. Noodles, sauce, onions (in ringlets), noodles, a full tub of Riccotta. What a wonderful name. More noodles, sauce, onions (still in ringlets), noodles, another full tub of Riccotta. Cottage just won’t do, today. More noodles, sauce, a full bag of cheese.

The planner had already assured a hot oven, so in goes the work of art. Now, time to wait. And finally, a supper that the whole family not only requested but enjoyed. End of another perfect day.
