Getting all the parts necessary

posted in computing |

Sometime through the night, a sale price was mentioned, in my DAW group. A hint that installing SSD media would turn any pumpkin into a twin-rocket stagecoach. I’m impulsive, and I realized that the new computer here didn’t have any mojo, yet. Time to shop.

And, as it happened, this was the final day of a sale in the city, and the drive I could afford was available at a very lucrative price point. Last one in the store. We loaded up the dog and lit out.

Now, getting the drive was one thing. Turns out that the cables are not exactly “off the shelf” items, although we did learn where to find a few other computer parts sellers. Good to know, etc. I purchased a SATA cable, but the mounting frame and power splitter are now on the way from Amazon. Consider that to be my version of the “buy local” meme.

We also ran into people we knew, or should have known, while on the mall crawl. Like the neighbour from two door over. Been here for going on two years, and it took a trip to the city to be introduced. I also received an offer to reset my dormant iPhone, from the Bell dealership, without signing a contract. Sweet!

Did some tech support for son #3 by video chat. An evolution of sorts, right? Used to be I’d send photos, trying to explain things. Now we can point and discuss. He had a new video card, and it had to go “in” before he went “out”.
