The family on the road
We went for a drive in the country today. The whole family, except for the dog, who wasn’t invited due to an administrative oversight (she didn’t call in a replacement for her watchdog duties in time). An excursion in the style of a “Sunday drive” from other times, except that this was a holiday with most of the local world actually going to work. Time-shifting, to profit from a long weekend.
Of course, the good weather arrived today, in honour of a new month, and we were able to fully enjoy the clear skies, sunny weather and random road construction. Other than the slow zones, (where we followed a cool Porsche Boxster), little had changed in the last year. There were still hills and trees and streams. The roaming heifers still ruled the corners of the fields, and we stopped for a family meal at a restaurant in the town that time forgot.
Our goal was to take the family for a “family visit”and, again, little had changed. We’re all a bit older, the sons are a bit taller, and conversation around the living room turned to jobs and girlfriends and expectations for the future. Our camera proved to be every bit as complicated as we expected; using the remote control to take a “family portrait” required much longer to navigate the nested menus than actually exposing the pictures. Note to self; the instruction manual is MORE important than the other stuff in the carrying bag, because otherwise we are the dummies behind the viewfinder.
