A ruler of a proper length
My quest, yesterday, to find standard measuring tools, reminded my of something on my own search list. I have a need for a ruler that is “one foot short of a yard”. In steel, so that it won’t change length suddenly, or something. As we happened to be in a high-class craft shop, earlier today, I thought I’d try and find one.
I did, but the price was outrageous. To be fair, so are most other things in that store; I guess that if you have time for crafts, money is no longer an issue. There are so many neat things on their shelves. I could see myself taking up jewelry making as an excuse to own the different types of pliers and that tiny anvil. A story for another time.
Anyhow, we also happened to visit the new tool store in the city. The one that smells of rubber tires, for some reason. I even asked the cashier about it, and she said that she no longer notices. Whatever. I did find my ruler, at about one-third of the price of the craft shop. I should have shopped for pliers. Another time for that story.
The ATM booth locally was a bit crowded this evening. Two large air-conditioning units, in a failing attempt to control the ambient temperature, which seemed to be holding at just over 31C despite their efforts. I know that computers don’t like false tropics, and this ATM is located in a solarium. I wish the bank luck on this one.
We were at supper in a local restaurant, and language was a real issue for the clients at the next table. I thought about the utility of a bilingual menu, and realized that the problem would be worse, as there is a tacit understanding that the staff would also be able to translate the menu. You see where this is leading.
