Comfort food outside my comfort zone

posted in food |

A change in routine around the house, today. The other half went to work, sort of… I didn’t even know that you could do supply teaching in a daycare in the middle of the summer, but that’s how it goes. I had nothing more challenging to take care than watering the garden and preparing a lonely steak on the BBQ. Cooked well, with the dog in his ” your best friend forever” role. I didn’t spoil him, but I didn’t disappoint him either.

Following a late afternoon text message, I had to shift gears. We received an invitation to a house party, with people we didn’t know as hosts. Completely outside my comfort zone. Still… have to shed my reclusive persona occasionally. We followed the neighbours over, and then made the rounds inside proving that we posed no threat to the gathering. As I said, house parties are outside my comfort zone.

It actually was OK. Good finger food (shrimp in sesame seeds rock!) Some excellent dessert, in honour of the host’s birthday. A chance meet with a cousin. And under cover of darkness, we slipped away to the safety of our own demeure.

So, what else is going on in the world, other than the American political sideshow. Not much, as it turns out. I’ll have to catch up on the different comedic takes circulating on YouTube. Late night TV, when I’m awake enough to enjoy the spiel. Could it be that the GOP are unable to inspire laughs on their own terms? Given the content I find, probably not.
